TheSuperCool Reloaded (or remerchandised!)

So, with so much stock sold and so much new stock in, we decided it was time for a re-merchandise of our shop at SO:ME space. Here’s some pics from our re-jig. As we’re really not photographers (thank you hipstamatic) its really better if you come by and visit in person!

Our SuperCool colourful pennant flags say bonjour, winner and hola for the small one’s and merci, 2nd best and gracias for the large one’s. Also our colourful paintchip notepads provide a great little gift at $3 each. Enjoy summer while you still can with these SuperCool beach ball sets (also good in the park!).

We’ve created a SuperCool kids area with chemistry inspired glassware, Scando inspired prints, recycled wooden dice blocks, ABC and 123 flashcards, vintage French wooden shields and lighthouse style lanterns.

These jute bags saying French Vintage, Italian Vintage & Swiss Vintage are so versatile. Use them to store your papers and mags, hold your towels in your bathroom, put toys in, keep your vege’s and fruit in or use as decoration. There’s mini one’s as well which are perfect for stationery, toiletries, small pot plants and jewellery.

We heart these vintage inspired book cupboards. Perfect for hiding your treasures. We also love the vintage folding ruler star with bingo and flashcard attached.

Our Calendars are all on sale. These colourful, floral and typographic calendars are perfect when wall hung using a bull dog clip or famed on your desk. They’re reduced to only $10. This wall art map is the last one in stock. Hand made with love in the US, these are beautifully created using old maps and atlas papers.

We’ve got lots more new stock in; vintage phones, test tube racks, ipad covers, map prize ribbons, vintage scales, I love you prints and vintage camera prints.

We’re digging these new graphic cushions with eye doctor charts and a collection of ampersands. The perfect addition to any designers couch, no?

If you love candles and apothecary bottles, these candles (made in Australia) are perfect for you. With green tea, citrus & sage or basil, lime & mandarin to choose from, you can get the 40 hour burn time candle or the 80 hour burn time candle (pending on your addiction levels!) Then when there’s no more candle left, use it as a vase or container.

These glass door knobs are perfect for updating your dodgy contemporary ones. No excuses. They’re sitting in the vintage Japanese film slide trays.

TheSuperCool new stock!

We’ve just created these “Emotional mini milk bottles” – SuperCool, right? $20 for a set of 3. Choose your crazy emotion faces. Great for gifts, fun for putting flowers, pencils, lollies in. We’ve only got limited stock of these at the moment. Run, don’t walk!

Quite like the pirate one on the right who looks like he’s sleeping (or got something in his other eye!) They kind of remind us of Mr Men faces!

We’re loving our fab Scando designed prints (we have a limited amount of these babies) and they’re all framed up in glass frames for only $50 each (A3 Size). Inexpensive wall art anyone?

“Vintage Fondue Party” print – how 70′s retro fabulous is this print?
”I like to Rock”…(out on the iconic classic Eames chair).                                 Grey print background with orange print.

Blue & Red Scando style Kitchen shelves with all the essentials! Does your kitchen need brightening up? Imagine it sitting next to a vintage red set of scales (we have these too! – shameless plug!)

“A cup of nordic tea” (indeed). Loving the bright orange background with scando/nordic design on the cup & saucer.

“Always start the day with a refreshing cup of Hot Coffee” – perfect for Melbournites. This print is in a great chocolatey/coffee colour and we believe would sit really well in a hole in the wall coffee shop. (Suggestions, anyone?)

Following on from the Coffee theme – “A morning without Coffee is like sleep” print is another great scando style print. Sky blue background with orange coffee pot.

“Expand your View” indeed. Remember the awesome viewfinders from your youth. We’re getting a tad nostalgic for these fun toys we used to have & this print brings back nothing but SuperCool memories!

A must for any lover of scando, vintage, industrial and mid century furniture. Hello fellow neighbours in inner city Melbourne! It says “Home, sweet mid-century modern Home“.

What collection of wall art would be complete without an eye doctors chart? We love this one as its so true. “Without Music, life would be a mistake”.

And for those Star Wars fans – May the force be with you forever!

flatout frankie

We’re loving this great new concept by clever kiwi’s flatout frankie. They’ve designed flat packed cardboard toys for inspiring creative and active play with kids.

We want the Nintendo DS’s and technology of the world to die a natural death and these smart, 100% recyclable, New Zealand made toys will help get kids off the couch and playing again. They can colour in the toys or just play with them.

And the best bit.. they’re super affordable ranging from $40- $45 retail. We’ve got stock of them now at SO:ME space. So come and check them out!

TheSuperCool has been spotted…..

So we’ve noticed we’ve been popping up on some of our favourite websites, blogs and some unexpected one’s too. Yay for us! Here’s a run down.

1. We discovered this superfab digital homes magazine & blog called Adore magazine. With pages of ideas for your casa, lots of interesting industry icons interviewed and some great imagery… we’re pretty excited to not only have a full page ad in their mag but a blog post and some editorial as well.

2. You can’t really be a true melbournite if you haven’t read Michi girl’s weather & fashion forecasts can you? We’ve popped up on their noticeboard with details about our 2 locations – SO:ME space and St Ali.

3. The great affordable art website called Signed & Numbered wrote quite a flattering review of our latest location.

4. We’ve been nominated as 1 of the 13 must see events on the Style Melbourne website for the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival.

5. After tweeting about the new Anthology magazines we’re stocking, Kitty Baroque did a blog post and took some great pics of our current location. Bless!

SO:ME Space photos

Photo’s by Robert Go

We are so rapt with our new photo’s from the latest location of TheSuperCool at SO:ME Space at South Melbourne Markets. We launched on Friday and had a busy Australia Day Weekend. We’ve got lots of new product in from amazing Japanese vintage pieces (including a vintage japanese phone with telex, japanese maritime chest, fishing floats, wooden slide film trays, instructional charts, sweets tins, chemistry sets etc) and lots of great new vintage glass bottles as well as eclectic glass and ceramic doorknobs, new stationery, new cushions, new Australiana inspired memorabilia and some quirky pieces like our chalkboards cut out in various shapes (a pig and a little boy silhouette).

Plus we’ve got loads of our old faithful best sellers back in – the ever popular mini milk bottles, the ABC & 123 flashcards for kids, the vintage kids shoe lasts, the MR & MRS signs and the versatile glass domes.

Come and visit us – we have new stock coming each week. Details of opening hours and dates here.

Destination #3 announced – SO:ME Space at South Melbourne Markets

We’re pretty excited to announce our next destination for TheSuperCool mobile emporium of everyday objects. We were approached by the team behind SO:ME Space – a unique retail concept that supports local and emerging designers from around Australia for the purposes of brand growth, experimentation and development in a dedicated, boutique space within the market.

Encouraging repeat customers, there’s a changing of the guard for 4 of the pop up spaces within SO:ME Space and it is here TheSuperCool will be visiting for 6 weeks with a unique retail installation.

We like each space we inhabit to show a different mix of product tailored to the local customers including stationery, design books, limited edition posters, kids toys, homewares, gifts and a SuperCool selection of vintage collectables. This time is no exception. Since our last destination at Pope Joan, we’ve been buying up big (ahh the credit card!) and we’ve found some amazing vintage pieces from far and wide. We’ve also got some great new designers we’ve been working with, so we’ll have new stock we’ll be bringing out each week we’re at SO:ME Space to keep it fresh and interesting.

The best bit is, you can do your grocery and fresh fruit & vege’s shopping, stop at Paella man for lunch and have a coffee at La Lapa whilst you shop it up with us.

So spread the word SuperCool folk.

Mr & Mrs Signs

We’ve finally got our re-order on the awesome, SuperCool “Mr & Mrs” signs. Proving a major hit during our Melbourne Central pop up space, we sold out in 1.5 weeks and its taken a while to get them back as they’re hand crafted by a clever duo in the USA. For those of you who saw and loved them, wanted them for your friends wedding or wanted them for your own wedding or just wanted them for an early Valentines Gift (whatever your reason, we don’t judge!) they’re back.

The front of the pair says “Mr & Mrs” and the back says “It’s Official, We’re Married” and they cost $20 for the pair. Bargain!

They make great wedding photo’s as well as displayed by me & Noonie (not in wedding gear clearly!)

If you like what you see, email us here to order some, we’ll post them out to you. We’ll be setting up our online store soon and we’ll have them at the next pop up space but until then, we know there was a bunch of you wanting them, so get in quick!

Happy New Year SuperCool people! We’re rested and ready to bring more SuperCool stuff to you all in 2012. Question is where next?

We’re really hoping to secure a great pop up space down The Great Ocean Road or the Peninsula Coast for Late January. Maybe you know of someone who has a….

1. Great Cafe with function room or empty space perfect for us to inhabit

2. Art Gallery that would fit our vibe

3. Empty shop begging for a SuperCool make over (even if for a long weekend)

We’d love your help in finding our next location and we’ll reward you as well!

In February, we’re looking at Castlemaine / Daylesford. So again, if you know of any great spaces, don’t hesitate to contact us here.

Gracias!

TheSuperCool Branding: A very important element

We unashamedly pray at the alter of Branding. We believe that good branding can make or break a concept. As I’m both 1/2 of  TheSuperCool and a branding and marketing consultant of iSpyStyle, I was hell bent on making the branding stand out from the crowd.

I didn’t have to travel far too find the right studio for the job.  My fellow studio friends are Studio Alto and they were super excited about taking on this brief. Coming back to us with four equally SuperCool and awesome concepts made the decision really hard so we ended up asking for a melting pot of two of the concepts and are beyond excited by the result.

We’ve also been super happy that Richard Baird of BP&O reviewed our branding on his blog.

More Press Love

Pope Joan Pics

So we had a pretty SuperCool 4 days of trading last week at Pope Joan and met some awesome people, have begun to eat our way through the Pope Joan menu, tackled serious heat and loads of rain and we’re ready to do it all over again from tomorrow – Wednesday 14 December till Wednesday 21 December. Next Stop: Pope Joan

So, TheSuperCool is moving to our 2nd location – the infamous and holy Pope Joan cafe! We’re a bit partial to this cafe as we live close by and its our local as well as the fact the staff are super friendly, there’s a SuperCool garden area to enjoy Melbourne’s sunshine (when it wants to come out) and the food….. hmmmm the food. Run by Chef Matt Wilkinson (former head chef at Circa, The Prince) and Ben Foster (former manager of The Kent Hotel) Pope Joan is a relaxed, stylish place to eat and chew the fat whilst sitting on marble covered milk crates!

We’re going to be setting up shop in their function room which leads into the garden area which backs onto their new venture, the Bishop of Ostia (a new bar set to open soon).

So, come for brunch and a shop – its truly the best way to do Christmas Shopping and there’s a car park opposite Pope Joan!

What is TheSuperCool?

A mobile emporium that goes to the people, with an eclectic mix of everyday objects from around the globe, THESUPERCOOL is launching this November, just in time for Christmas.

THESUPERCOOL is a project run by the team behind iSpyStyle.  Through their own retail trend analysis for clients and international trend agencies WGSN and The Coolhunter, iSpyStyle realised there was an opportunity to create a mobile retail experience; pop-up shops 2.0 – where the pop up keeps on moving to new locations.

“We were fascinated with the concept of vintage peddlers who were the original mobile retailers; taking their wares to wherever the people were. This idea of creating a temporary shop for locals resonated with us given the state of the current retail environment.”

THESUPERCOOL will sell stationery, design books, posters, kids toys, homewares, gifts and vintage collectables among other items. Following trends influenced by fashion, pop culture and the creative industries, THESUPERCOOL has hand selected everyday objects from local and international artists to bring a unique edit. It offers a sensory experience you can’t achieve by shopping online.

With a background in visual merchandising and styling, co-founder Kate Vandermeer will be ensuring that each space caters to the local customers and is excited about offering inspirational and engaging shopping experiences.
